In 1987, David Geshitan at the Israel Museum held the first large-scale exhibition, "Geshitan shearing sculpture" known to the world. David Geshitan when he was young in the famous art colleges in Israel, Paris, New York, London and other places to study, he created not to meet the needs of the market, did not show the profound artistic posturing. It is to extract themes from childhood memories and personal experiences, to focus on everyday life, to express fear of art, to understand life and love for humanity in plain language.

Air art: what kind of country is Israel? In everybody's impression, from the holy city of Jerusalem to the world religions prophecy Dead Sea scrolls, from never fall to sway Felipe dramas in Tel Aviv, the country seems to be the integration of modern spirit and ancient civilization.
Since the founding of Israel in 1948 and the overall occupation of Jerusalem in 1967, the whole country has changed a lot? What is the corresponding art? How do you choose the art road?
David Geshitan: Israel is a magical country. My parents returned from Poland to Israel, and I was born in Jerusalem. In the four years before the founding of Israel, I could be said to be the first generation of new State of Israel. Israel has undergone many changes from the founding of the people's Republic to the present, and our country is not large, but there are people from different ethnic beliefs around the world. The art of Israel is also very diverse and rich. Although the two cities in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are not far from each other, the artistic environment is quite different.

Speaking of my way of art, my family is almost not related to art. My father is a leather worker. I helped him in his leather workshop when I was young. Many years later, when I thought about how to create and cut all shapes and characters, I recalled the father of the leather shearer. Paper-cut is a popular Jewish traditional culture, and I also seem to be part of it. My sketch lines are as clear as cutting shapes, and it is these lines that naturally develop a shearing technique.

Empty Art: from 1965 to 1974, you have spent nearly ten years studying in four well-known high art colleges and universities in Jerusalem, Paris, New York and London. How do different cities and cultures make you feel different?
David: I am 21 years old Geshitan entered Jerusalem Bezalel art academy, a year after learning to go to the outside world, the art of Paris has become my first choice. In 1966, I entered the national higher Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France, and worked hard to study "professional": traditional and classical painting. Paris was a politically colored city at that time, and the French Abstract avant-garde art after World War II was in a revival period. After a visit to several American artists, I soon realized that the frontline of the art world had already moved to New York. There, abstract expressionism, pop art, and minimalism have flourished and occupied the art stage of the 50s and 60s.

Stayed in Paris for two years later, I went to the big apple "New York", and in New York experienced the late 60s wave of art and culture, day and night in New York galleries, art galleries and even street art events completely attracted me, the blood surging art breath, has become a part of my later creation.

In 1971, I returned to Israel, and started in the Bezalel Art Academy Manager, I was deeply attracted by the city. At that time, I created a large number of paintings on the theme of the city. I focused on Jerusalem people in groups or alone, and created stylized portraits and architectural scenes.

Two years later, I decided to leave again, to London, for two years of graduate study at the Saint Martin School of art in England, specializing in etchings. During this period, I created a series of paintings of "balcony" and many other works, with memories of my childhood and a respect for Tel Aviv.
